Average January temperatures are a good three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at over two thousand feet. The full force of the winter season arrives in January and stays around until March in the Catskills. It's located between two state highways and is just a two and a half-hour drive from New York City. This tiny town of only 639 residents is nevertheless known as "The Biggest Little Town in the Catskills" and has become a popular getaway for tourists. Margaretville sits on the edge of the Catkills State Park in Delaware County in the southern region of the state.
